Aethele Khunda, like most of his peers, performed mesh surgery for incontinence and prolapse up to 2018 when the NHS paused its use. The Cumberledge report in 2020 set out conditions which the NHS has to meet before the resumption of mesh surgery. The NHS is working to meet these conditions in order to resume mesh surgery. Aethele Khunda is not against mesh use and does believe that mesh use has its advantages (and disadvantages), but he does not intend to resume performing mesh surgery. Aethele Khunda will counsel his patients about all surgical options available and if they choose a non-mesh operation, he will do the operation for them, whilst if they choose a mesh operations, he will happily refer them on to a colleague who does mesh surgery.
